In finance, 70% of openings never reach a job board. In trading it is even worse - a desk in Warsaw, Prague or Amsterdam looks for a person through a referral, because it does not want 900 CVs from people after a course on “become a trader in 7 days”. Personal branding is not showing off on Instagram. It is a system that makes the right people see your process, understand your risk and know that you are auditable before you send a CV.

Networking is not “add me”. It is an exchange of value: you give insight into your data, you get feedback that shortens the road by 12 months. Branding is not a logo. It is consistency: the same name, the same metrics, the same narrative about risk in every place - LinkedIn, X, GitHub, Myfxbook.

Lesson goal and what you will measure

After this lesson you will be able to:

  • Build a personal branding system for a trader based on evidence, not opinions.
  • Run three-channel networking: LinkedIn (institutions), X/Twitter (traders), offline (meetups, conferences).
  • Create 3 types of content that build trust: a risk report, a mistake case study, a rulebook teardown.
  • Measure the ROI of networking: number of conversations → introductions → offers / funded accounts.

Measures at the end: a consistent X + LinkedIn profile, a 4-week content calendar, a target list of 50 contacts, 20 value-first messages sent, a conversion table.

Foundation - 3 pillars of a trader’s brand

PillarWhat you publishProofFrequency
1. ProcessHow you trade, how you measure, how you cutJournal screenshot, PF table, risk rule1x per week
2. RiskWhat could have gone wrong and how you control itDD report, max loss day analysis, position sizing change1x per 2 weeks
3. VerificationAn external link that confirms your wordsMyfxbook verified, broker statement, GitHubPermanent in bio + 1x monthly update

Bad brand: “Today +8R! Join the group!”. Good brand: “Today -1.2% - I broke the rule of max 2 trades after a loss. Here is the log and the change to the plan from tomorrow: max 1 trade after a loss >1%”.

The trust algorithm in finance:

Trust = (Proof * Consistency * Time) / (Hype)

Proof = verified track + journal + project
Consistency = the same risk narrative for 6+ months
Time = the longer without deleting history, the higher
Hype = % promises without showing DD and costs

Channels - where to build what

LinkedIn - for institutions and recruiters:

  • Language: professional, no prop slang.
  • Content: macro analysis → market impact, a risk desk case study, a company report teardown, your change in risk management.
  • Who to add: Head of Trading, Head of Risk, Portfolio Manager, a recruiter at a bank / Polish investment fund company (TFI) / family office, prop traders with an office.
  • How to write a message: 3 sentences, value first, without asking for a job in the first message.

LinkedIn message template:

Hi [Name], I saw your post about [topic]. I measured this on my own account in [market] - [metric]. I did a short teardown [Notion/PDF link]. Can I ask you one thing about your process [specific]? Thanks, [Name]

X/Twitter - for traders and prop:

  • Language: shorter, more technical, platform screenshots.
  • Content: a 5-tweet thread about a mistake, a chart with MAE/MFE, a comparison of prop rulebooks, a backtest idea.
  • Who to follow: traders with a verified track, risk managers, accounts that educate about execution.
  • Avoid: signals, “we are going for 10%”, arguments.

Offline - the strongest channel in Poland:

  • Meetings: Invest Cuffs Krakow, SGH (Warsaw School of Economics) conferences, CFA Society Warsaw events, Python Data Warsaw meetups.
  • Rule: go with 1 question and 1 artifact (a PDF report). Not with 100 business cards.
  • After the meeting: a 24h LinkedIn follow-up with 1 sentence that refers back to the conversation.

Content system - 4 weeks, 3 types

WeekTypeExample titleFormat
1Risk report“My max daily loss: 0.9% → 1.4%: what I changed in position sizing”LinkedIn post + chart
2Mistake case study“3 trades without a setup cost me 2.1% - log and tagging”X thread of 4 tweets + journal screenshot
3Teardown“FTMO vs The5ers: daily DD equity vs balance - a 23% difference in failures”1-page Notion + link on LinkedIn
4Building in public“Day 90/180 of building a track record: PF 1.32, DD 6.1% - what next”LinkedIn + Myfxbook update

The 80/20 rule: 80% of content is process and risk, 20% is results. Reversing the proportion kills trust.

Content_Plan_12_Weeks = 6x risk_report + 3x mistake_case + 2x teardown + 1x quarterly_summary

Quality_Metric = (Substantive_Comments / Views) * 100
Goal: >0.8% on LinkedIn, >1.5% on X for accounts <2k followers.

Contact database and the trader’s CRM

Not networking in your head, but in a spreadsheet.

CRM columns:

NameCompany / RoleChannelDate of contactValue givenReplyNext stepPriority
Anna K.Head of Risk, TFI X (Polish investment fund company)LinkedIn2025-06-10VaR teardownYesCase study 15 min callA
Marek S.Prop trader, funded 400kX2025-06-12Tag journalYesTemplate exchangeB

Priority A: 10 people - PM, Head of Risk, a senior trader with 10+ years. Contact 1x per month with value. Priority B: 20 people - peers with a better track. Contact 1x per 2 weeks. Priority C: 20 people - a wider network. Substantive comments, likes.

Do not send more than 15 new invitations per week - LinkedIn bans spam. An acceptance rate of <25% = a bad headline or a bad message.

When the plan says do not trade

  • When you spend 2h a day scrolling X and call it networking - do not trade, turn off the feed, set a limit of 30 min a day.
  • When you want to post a result without showing DD and the rule - do not publish. First add the risk, then the result.
  • When you send a 5th message “hey, do you maybe have a job?” with no value at all - do not send it. Stop for 7 days and build an artifact.
  • When your bio on LinkedIn, X and Myfxbook has 3 different descriptions of the system and 3 different metrics - do not apply, unify the narrative.
  • When you get into public arguments about prop firm A being better than B - do not comment. That destroys a brand faster than a losing month.

Mistakes that cost the most

  1. Personal branding = Instagram lifestyle. Photos with a laptop on the beach, a watch, a car. A fund and a good prop firm avoid that from a distance. It is a signal of gambling, not of risk management.
  2. No consistency between channels. On LinkedIn “conservative swing”, on X “scalping 50 trades daily”. A recruiter checks everything in 3 minutes and rejects it as chaos.
  3. Begging networking. “Please help, I have been looking for a job for a year, help me”. Instead: “I did an analysis of [topic] - can I get 5 min of feedback?”. The second version gets 4x more replies.
  4. Deleting losing posts. You delete a thread where you admitted a mistake and the market saw that you were lying. Never delete. Add an update with what you changed. That builds more trust than a perfect feed.

Measurable exercise

14-day task: brand + networking system

Day 1-2:

  • Unify the bio on LinkedIn, X, Myfxbook: Role | System | Metrics | Tools | Link to verified track.
  • Create a Notion / Google Drive page: 1 page “About me - trader” with 3 sections: Process, Risk, Evidence (links).

Day 3-5:

  • Build a CRM of 50 contacts: 10x A, 20x B, 20x C. Fill in the columns.
  • Write 3 value-first message templates (1 per priority).

Day 6-14:

  • Publish 2 posts according to the table (1 risk report, 1 teardown).
  • Send 20 messages from the CRM with priority A+B (max 5 per day).
  • Leave substantive comments on 10 posts from people on list A.

Measure:

  • Views, substantive comments, acceptances, replies, 15 min conversations.

Pass criterion: 2 posts live + 20 messages sent + 10 comments + a completed CRM + 1 Notion page with evidence.

Test yourself

  1. What is the difference between personal branding and bragging about results? Give the Trust formula.
  2. Why does offline (conferences) have a higher ROI than 100 LinkedIn messages?
  3. List 3 types of content that build trust and an example title for each.
  4. What should a value-first LinkedIn message look like? What is forbidden in the first message?
  5. How will you measure whether your networking works? Give 3 conversion metrics.

Frequently asked questions

Do I have to be active every day? No. 2-3 valuable activities per week > 7 posts a day with noise. The algorithm rewards 90 days of consistency, not a 7-day sprint.

What if I have no results, what do I share? Share the process of building: “Day 30 of building a journal - I learned to tag mistakes. Here is my template”. Process > P&L at the start.

Should I set up my own Discord / group? Not at the start. First prove that you can deliver value 1:1 (20 conversations), then 1:many. A group without proof is a cost in time and reputation risk.

How should I react to hate / negative comments? Answer with data or do not answer. Never get emotional. “Thanks for the point, I checked it on my 200 trades - here is the result: […]” ends the discussion.
