KNF

The Polish Financial Supervision Authority (KNF) — Poland's financial-market regulator. Check a broker's licence in the KNF register before depositing.

Definition

The KNF (Komisja Nadzoru Finansowego, the Polish Financial Supervision Authority) is Poland’s regulator of the financial market — banks, investment firms and part of the offering to retail clients. Before depositing money you check the entity’s status in the registers and the public warnings, instead of trusting a broker’s marketing page alone.

Example

You compare two CFD brokers. One is entered in the relevant registers and is subject to the ESMA leverage limits for retail clients; the other promises “1:1000 with no KNF”. You choose the transparent supervisory status and read the KNF warnings about unauthorised entities.

Anti-example / common mistake

“A nice app means it is safe.” An EU logo on a banner is no substitute for checking who actually serves you and under which passport. Another mistake: confusing supervision with a guarantee of profit.
